The corner of 56th Street and 5th Avenue (seen here at right) has been occupied by a series of grand, iconic, and now somewhat infamous buildings. The 19th-century buildings seen in this photograph at 725 Fifth Avenue were a series of private townhouses constructed by William Waldorf Astor between 1889 and 1898. In 1911 they were converted to commercial properties. The Harlow Gallery, which in 1920 hosted an exhibition of English sporting prints, occupied one of the spaces.
