One of three sculptures commemorating Latin American leaders, the Simon Bolivar monument celebrates the military general who helped liberate Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Panama from Spanish rule. This statue is the third iteration commissioned by the Venezuelan government in a worldwide competition. It was dedicated on April 19, 1921.
